Born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, Dato Shake hit it big in the pop music world while living in France, where he scored a record deal and released a hit single, "Tu Sais Je T'Aime," within months of arriving. The single and the performer made a huge impact on the world pop stage, especially in those nations where French was spoken. His success was recognized by his home nation, whose king gave him the title of "Dato," which is an equivalent to "Sir" in the English or European sense. From there, Shake went on to make a number of television appearances and made tour stops in Europe, Asia, and America, where he began work on an English-language album. The album featured the production talents of Michael Sembello and the skills of Dayrell Ross as songwriter.
