Of the bassists on record named Bill Jones, this one appears to have shown up first and hung around the longest. He was active in an orchestra led by one-armed trumpeter Wingy Manone beginning in the early '40s, and was still holding forth on the trad jazz scene some four decades later. Most of his performances were on-stage -- according to discographer Tom Lord, the bassist averaged a recording session every 20 years.
