Raised in the burgeoning alternative music mecca that was Seattle, this diminutive singer/songwriter started at an early age making music, starting with the piano and then moving on to the guitar. In 1997, living in a college town north of Seattle, Andrea Maxand formed her first group, the Minerals. The group performed around the area while Maxand continued to write songs. It was here that the basis for her clever and sly writing style evolved. But the band eventually split, and Maxand began writing new material. In 2000 and early 2001, Maxand recorded material for her debut album. With the assistance of Chris Walla from the group Death Cab for Cutie, Maxand released her debut album, Angel Hat, on Montesano Records. The album received much praise and drew comparisons to Cat Power. In 2002, Maxand returned to the studio to record and release a follow-up EP.
