Artist Biography by

A Philadelphia-based journalist, entertainment critic, and technical writer whose work has appeared in Billboard, Spin, Pulse!, HITS, JazzTimes, CD Review, and many other national publications, Alex Henderson has been writing professionally since the age of 15. Henderson was only in the ninth grade when he began freelancing regularly for Rogers' Review, a small, short-lived rock music monthly published out of Hermosa Beach, CA, in the late '70s. He went on to earn a B.A. in journalism from California State University, Northridge in 1986 before doing everything from serving as a managing editor at Cash Box and a columnist for JazzTimes to writing press releases for Priority Records and coordinating news features for the Los Angeles News Globe. As the 1990s progressed, he took on more and more technical and high-tech writing while continuing to cover music extensively for Jazziz, Black Radio Exclusive, and CD Review. The Philly resident (who has written liner notes for Rhino, Concord, Del-Fi, and other labels) became a frequent contributor to All Music Guide in 1996, which was also the year in which he began writing high-tech press releases and website reviews for the Internet-based company Vision X Software. Henderson, who has well over 8,000 CDs in his collection, takes pride in his highly eclectic taste in music and his ability to appreciate everything from jazz to heavy metal to country.
