One of the most advanced flutists of his time, Agenor Bens participated in the first audition of the works by Villa-Lobos in Nova Friburgo RJ in 1915, together with Villa-Lobos' wife at the time, Lucília, and the very composer at the violoncello. Bens recorded several gramophone plates, which attest to his virtuosity and expression, like Koeller's "Serenata Oriental," and was also an important name of the choro.
