Henry Johnson's debut as a leader features the guitarist/vocalist (inspired most by Wes Montgomery and George Benson) on a wide variety of material ranging from bop to funkier and more soulful sounds. Backed by five different keyboardists (including his employer, Ramsey Lewis, on two songs), a pair of bassists, and drummer Robert Gates, Johnson is in fine form on this early effort. However, he has not yet lived up to his potential nor developed his own voice, despite his continuing promise.
