Captured live at Effenaar in Eindhoven, Holland, Helios Creed here quite articulately demonstrates his near-alien abilities with psychedelic guitar and vocal effects. As a founder of the legendary cult band Chrome, Helios helped construct the oddball foundations of space rock, taking things much further afield than Hawkwind. On his own, Helios ventured more in a rock vein, all the while maintaining his extraterrestrial bent. Having worked for years with noise rock stalwarts Amphetamine Reptile Records, Helios managed to establish himself firmly within the post-punk underground. This disc shows him in fine form, his singular guitar style singing cleanly through the sound board. An excellent lead player, Helios, like Paul Leary of the Butthole Surfers is one of rock's great unsung oddball visionaries. No one's guitar sounds like Helios; it is absolutely unmistakable, like Frank Zappa fed through the X-Files mainframe computer. A great introduction to Helios Creed, here playing with a full band, including keys.
