One of the best though hardest to find of Erasure's single releases (it never surfaced in America in its full form) the remix disc for "You Surround Me" captures the duo extremely well, helped by the studio hands assisting on the varying mixes. The remix itself is one of the most radical reworkings done for the group, with Mark Saunders taking the steady, dramatic slow flow of the original and pumping it up into an equally show stopping fast punch of a dance track. Bell's vocals sound like they were recorded for the purpose, and the whole combination is lovely. William Orbit then steps up with his own mind-blowing contribution, a fierce revamp of the band's cover of the Cerrone Eurodisco cult hit "Supernature." Bell tackles the lyrics with appropriate passion, Clarke's synth rearrangements of the music surge with life, and Orbit's overall remix sizzles -- it's one of his best production efforts, hands down. The 6 Pianos mix of the instrumental "91 Steps" closes out the disc with a series of what indeed sounds like six pianos playing an increasingly intertwined series of melodies.
