AllMusic Review by

A variety of performances by Lu Watters' highly influential Yerba Buena Jazz Band (some of which are currently available elsewhere) are on this collector's Lp. Four selections from trumpeter Benny Strickler's date with the wartime Yerba Buena Jazz Band and the alternate take of Wally Rose's 1942 hit version of "Black & White Rag" (which helped launch a mini-revival of ragtime) are on this album as is an obscure version of "Maple Leaf Rag" by the full group in 1947 and four songs from a 1949 session. Side one of this Lp actually has the most interesting music; nine selections from the band's 1947 appearance on Rudi Blesh's This Is Jazz radio show. Until all of the music is made available on CD, dixieland fans who run across this Lp are advised to pick it up.
