AllMusic Review by

Delta's Wondrous Music of India collects two discs' worth of traditional vocal and instrumental Indian music. Judging by the somewhat hissy sound quality of the recordings, the performances were probably recorded in the field some time ago; though it's occasionally distracting, as on the 23-minute "Gita Gourinda," for the most part it doesn't get in the way of the music. And as for the music itself, it's fairly diverse, spanning vocal pieces like "Bhajan," sitar-driven tracks such as "Ras," and tabla and flute- and reed-dominated compositions like "Trilana." Other highlights include the three-part suite "Kajili"; "Mayanamotir Gan," a percussion-led track; and the lush-sounding "Baul Song." While the music the collection features is worthwhile, the set offers little information explaining its context. Ultimately, there are better and more detailed compilations of Indian music available within the same price range.
