For many listeners, the meaning of the title of Sony Special Products' Willie Standard Time may escape them at first. It's not that it's too clever -- it's just takes a moment to realize that the it's called Willie Standard Time because all ten tracks on this budget-priced collection are standards, or at least covers. Granted, the term "standard" may be stretched a little bit when it comes to such songs as "Wind Beneath My Wings," but the remainder of the album features sublime versions of such staples as "Stormy Weather," "Don't Get Around Much Anymore," "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter," "Unchained Melody" and "That Lucky Old Sun (Just Rolls Around Heaven All Day)." Most Nelson fans will recognize that much of this compilation is in the mode of his classic Stardust and that they own much of this material. Nevertheless, budget-minded fans looking for an affordable sampler of his standard material will not be disappointed with this.
