A talented pianist from Denmark, Carsten Dahl made his recording debut as a leader on this trio set. Other than the title cut and his "Ain't Sorry Blues," the music on the date is comprised of familiar standards. However, in his subtle improvising and a few surprises along the way (including changing a few notes in the melody of "Autumn Leaves," the catchy rhythm given "Caravan," the relaxed tempo of "Giant Steps" and a few other transformations), the music avoids being predictable and keeps one guessing. All in all, this is an excellent debut by a pianist who deserves to be much better known in the United States.
