This double-disc set has a great title, but the thrills stop there. The first disc is comprised of very early Rod Stewart performances with Long John Baldry, and while his vocal work is fine, as far as it goes, Stewart is still a long way from his distinctive abilities and persona in the Faces. The second disc performs a similar trick on Eric Clapton, collecting several early Yardbirds cuts. Its possible that ardent collectors may want to pick up this box, but these tracks, both the ones by Stewart and the ones by Clapton, have been issued countless times in different packages. Both artists show glimmers of future glories here, particularly Clapton, but these remain nothing more than nascent tracks and timepiece curios.
