Bevel showcases their folk-country pastoral skills on their second disc, Where Leaves Block the Sun. Leaning far more to the folk side, Bevel includes help from members of the Dirty Three, John Zorn, Edith Frost, Shannon Wright, Lambchop, and Souled American (amongst others). The 13 tracks create a picture of bright, sunny days with enough Nick Drake feeling to temper full-blown bliss. The arrangement and ability to bring out a full, rich sound while still being seemingly simple is what makes Bevel a pleasant 49-minute listen. This is neither irritating nor is it unpleasant, and compared to so much other music out there, it makes Bevel worth a listen, primarily for those interested in folk projects.
