AllMusic Review by

There are no songs on 1997's A Wet Handle, Ivor Cutler's first album in over a decade. Instead, the Scottish poet and humorist reads the entirety of his book of poetry of the same name, playing short harmonium riffs between each poem. The poems are typical Cutler, with a surreal playfulness commingling with a mordant sensibility. Cutler's droll Scottish burr is a delightful instrument, adding an odd musicality to even the lesser poems. Of course, with 83 poems, some are better than others, but the hit to miss ratio is very high. Cutler, who was 74 years old when this album was released, retired from recording and writing shortly thereafter.
