Most listeners probably only know the Stories as the band behind the early-'70s one-hit wonder "Brother Louie," an eerily lush tale of interracial love. The fact that the song, even with its wah-wah guitars and period strings, was still eerie and lush should have signaled that the people behind could have been partially responsible for a band as evocative as the Left Banke, which they were. See for Miles' collection, Walk Away From the Left Banke, illustrates this very well over the course of its 20 tracks. Left Banke fanatics shouldn't come in looking for baroque pop on the level of that fabled group, but this is excellent pop-prog in its own right, worth seeking out for pop fetishists and Banke devoted.
