Combining the band's first two mid-'80s full-lengths, Ultrasonic and Ultima Action, 1995's Ultrasonic Action walked a fine line between compellingly realistic chaos and hopeless noise. K.K. Null (Yona-Kit, Zeni Geva, Ybo2), Asami, and Murayama had the instincts of a shrieking beast in the last hours of its life, but not much of its character. "Disembody," the best track here, was lathered in pitched feedback and long, snaking, joylessly incoherent sprawls of drums and bass for well over ten minutes, which both annoyed and recalled the tactics of Steve Albini's Rapeman and a completely unhinged Sonic Youth.
