AllMusic Review by

In the 1980s, the Grover Mitchell Big Band was one of the more underrated jazz orchestras. Influenced by, but not limited to, the swing of Count Basie, the 12-piece version heard on this Stash release performs arrangements by Eric Dixon, Wild Bill Davis (who plays piano on the record), Ernie Wilkins, Cecil Bridgewater, and Frank Foster. Among the main soloists in the band are Davis, trumpeters Bridgewater and John Eckert, altoist Norris Turney (who is showcased on "Azure Te"), Doug Lawrence on tenor and soprano, and Mitchell himself on trombone. Easily recommended to fans of swinging big bands.
