Big Eye's Tribute to John Mayer doesn't have a lot of respect for the kid's breakthrough album. Besides the obvious inclusion of "No Such Thing," "Your Body Is a Wonderland," and similarly strong "Why Georgia," this tribute is a straight retelling of the Mayer's 2003 follow-up Heavier Things. The "Acoustic Saints" -- an unknown group of studio musicians -- do a nice enough job throughout. They rarely try to copy Mayer's inflections or arrangements outright, instead opting for slick and well-played, if a little bland cover versions -- sort of like seeing one of the better bar bands in your college town run through their Mayer set. Standouts include "Wonderland" and "Bigger Than My Body," though fans will probably get more bang for their buck by actually paying cover for that local band than buying this cash-in comp.
