After several volumes in their Trance Europe Express series, the compilation label Volume began a new series based on North America. The first volume of Trance Atlantic continues Volume's tradition of offering solid collections with all-exclusive tracks and in-depth interviews with each artist. Unfortunately, it also presents an overly simplified overview of American electronic music, with the balance consisting of Detroit techno (Juan Atkins, Eddie "Flashin" Fowlkes, Kenny Larkin, Plastikman, Aux 88); New York-based trance (Joey Beltram, Mark Gage, Damon Wild, Steve Stoll); and San Francisco experimental psychedelics (Hardkiss, Spacetime Continuum, Meat Beat Manifesto, Psychic TV). The tracks are great, and fans of the styles will be impressed, but a bit more diversity would have been welcomed.
