Tonnage, Vol. 2 is the second installment of Epic and 550's low-priced sampler of rarities from their hottest -- or least, the ones they would like to be the hottest -- alternative artists. Really more of a promotional device than a compilation, Tonnage, Vol. 2 doesn't make for coherent, enjoyable listening mainly because few of the featured bands have anything in common. Furthermore, the disc is bogged down by mediocrities like Ammonia, Handsome, and Unwritten Law, not to mention bland grunge from Silverchair and silly metal from Korn. The few tracks that standout -- Shudder to Think's jagged "So Into You," Echobelly's Blondie update "Car Fiction" and Oasis' monolithic cover of "Cum on Feel the Noize" only represent a fraction of the disc, which doesn't quite make it a bargain, even at its reduced price.
