TJ Dennis is a protégé of Australian madman Kevin Bloody Wilson (notable in the main for a series of vulgar records that even have the Australians worried on occasion). Her leaning is into the ballad end of rock, with some blues and country flavoring, but the result, going by this effort, is a bit on the anemic side. Dennis has the same sort of mouth as Carly Simon, but seems unwilling to really give her voice the sort of push it needs to make her a standout -- there certainly seems to be ability there, and she has a nice vibrato, but the effort is lacking. As a result, her backing musicians seem to be holding back somewhat. Net result: everybody winds up in a weakened position.
