AllMusic Review by

"Informant" from This Side of Anywhere, the 1998 release from New Jersey quartet Outcry, kicks off the album in chunky, melodic pop style. Added into the mix are some great harmonies and a soaring vocal performance by lead singer Jason Stanley. It's not the last time that the band works up an impressive sonic attack. Unfortunately, however, while songs like "2 Days of Rain," with a shimmering guitar melody, the bracing "Driving," and the punchy "Brick," sound good, there's not much in the way of memorable lyrics or hooks. Stanley is a self-assured vocalist that actually bears a resemblance to Neil Finn, but only on "Tell Me" does the band actually manage to put everything together with a song that lingers in the memory.
