AllMusic Review by

This is a collection of early-to mid-'50s recordings by Stan Getz on the Giants of Jazz label. While it's true this is a budget collection, it doesn't mean that the material here is any way substandard. It's true that there are some sketchy details in terms of personnel, but that's hardly a real deterrent, especially since it's made up of live dates and radio transcriptions. Getz, with his signature breezy tone, blows through bop on his own composition "Crazy Chords" and "Running Water," as well as on some gorgeous ballads like Barry Harris' "Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams," and "You Stepped out of a Dream," as well as some seriously swinging mid-tempo stuff like Johnny Mercer's "Too Marvelous for Words," "Five Brothers," and numerous others. This is a beautiful comp.
