AllMusic Review by

Jack Greene was known only as a member of Ernest Tubb's Texas Troubadours before "There Goes My Everything" rocketed him into the limelight. The slow, heartbroken ballad topped the country charts for nearly two months and won the CMA's Single of the Year award. Greene's vocal style bears traces of country, but is smooth enough to appeal to the pop audience who made "There Goes My Everything" a crossover hit. The LP that contains Greene's signature song is otherwise standard country album fare, comprised almost entirely of covers of recent country hits. Greene's first minor solo hit, "Ever Since My Baby Went Away," is appended to the list of well-known country ballads. "The Hurt's on Me," a fast-paced drinking song, is the only one that strays from the formula.
