Carol O'Shaughnessy has a clear and appealing voice. She is able to swing standards, and since she does not improvise much, she fits securely into the middle-of-the-road genre while still being able to credibly perform jazz songs. This CD has among its more worthy performances "Almost Like Being In Love," "Miss Celie's Blues" and "I've Got the World on a String" although it gets a bit sappy near its end with a "Peter Pan Medley" and the sentimental "The Way I See It." O'Shaughnessy is joined by keyboardist Tom LaMark (who along with David Sparr provides synthesizers for color), bassist Marshall Wood, drummer Jim Gwin, the reeds of Mike Monaghan and the welcome trumpet of Dave Burdett. A pleasing effort.
