Featuring the talents of the production/writing team of Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, The Very Best of Chic & Sister Sledge is a great collection of classic disco and dance tracks from the '70s. With careers that were virtually identical due to the duo's involvement, Chic and Sister Sledge were a huge force in the pop world during this time, delivering some huge hits and songs that will always be associated with the disco movement. The four best songs on the entire collection start the disc off, which is a bold move on the part of the sequencer. These are the songs that almost every fan is going to want collected together, so there's a lot of potential for disappointment after those songs are done. But attentive listeners will notice that even the songs that weren't smash hits are still recognizable, whether it be because they were sampled by famous rappers (which they were) or are played in movies and television shows that focus on that time period. The remixes are pretty unnecessary, even robbing "Good Times" of its frantic pace and replacing it with a rather dull hip-hop beat that takes the impact of the song away. Before the remixes start, this is a great collection of music from Rodgers and Edwards, but both artists have individual hit albums that are better structured, so this is for listeners who only want the bare minimum of what the duo accomplished with these groups.
