AllMusic Review by

As the spiritual and cultural epicenter of house music, the city of Chicago has arguably had the greatest influence on electronic dance music. Tracing its origins from an infamous nightclub called the Warehouse, house music's global reach and stature has made it a ubiquitous and foundational presence in dance and club culture. SOUND OF CHICAGO HOUSE surveys the complete history of the genre, from the Hot Mix 5 radio DJs on to deep house and acid, and functions as a fine overview of the many facets of this most unfairly maligned of music genres. The many anthems here show house music to be an exuberant expression of Chicago's distinctive urban culture--as variegated, vital, and fresh as the jazz, blues, and gospel that preceded it.
