AllMusic Review by

This double CD best-of features memorable tracks by some of Jamaican music's prime movers, including the trombonist Rico Rodriguez's "Luke Lane Shuffle," Roland Alphonso's "Sandy Gully," and the Skatalites' "Latin Goes Ska," as well as notable hits by later reggae artists, like Toots & the Maytals' "54-46 That's My Number" and Desmond Dekker's "007." John Holt's "The Tide Is High" was later successfully covered by Blondie, while Laurel Aitken's "The Ska Is the Limit" set the scene for decades of bad-punning band names by subsequent waves of ska-influenced musicians.
