The Four Seasons were the first group to succeed in retaining ownership of their master recordings, which only meant that by 1975, their '60s hits had been out of print for several years. That was when their current label, Private Stock, leased their hits for this 28-track double-LP, the most extensive collection of The Four Seasons' most popular music released up to that time. During the '60s, the group put out a dizzying number of hits compilations, but none contained all the hits and all had disappeared from the record shelves by the time this one appeared. A few minor songs were left out, but this was the essence of The Four Seasons, 1962-1969, and Story, although it, too, went out of print, remained the best compilation on the group until the release of Rhino's 25th Anniversary Collection 12 years later.
