CCM artist Steven Curtis Chapman began recording his distinctive brand of pop-inflected gospel in the 1980s for Sparrow Records. The bright, melodic, commercial aspect that characterizes Chapman's later work is apparent on these ten tracks (the music bears a striking resemblance to the '80s sound of Huey Lewis & the News). But ministry is at the heart of Chapman's mission, and The Early Years brims with sentiments of praise & worship, as evidenced by songs like "His Strength Is Perfect" and "My Redeemer Is Faithful and True." Longtime Chapman fans will want to have this early volume to complete their collections.
