Rockapella's smooth a capella is warm and soothing on their first-ever holiday album, Christmas. The solid quintet's harmonious beauty is captured in a dozen stylish cuts weaving classic vocal pop over threads of R&B and soul. Standards such as "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "The Christmas Song" continue with the vocal delight, but also incorporate the group's fondness for jazz. It's almost sultry, as "Winter Wonderland" bounces with frilly doo wops, and Rockapella's cheerful presentation is exactly what Christmas should be: merry. Three original tracks -- "The Hope You Hold," "Christmas Without You," and "Hold out for Christmas," penned by Rockapella vocalist Scott Leonard -- are equally enjoyable. The funky soul of "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is an album highlight, a standout showcasing bass man Barry Carl on vocals. Overall, Rockapella's Christmas Album is something enjoyable to mix inside traditional holiday classics.
