The rather vague title of this collection might seem to suggest a somewhat narrow range of material to select from. But in truth, the music comes from all corners of the '50s rock & roll map, from the thick R&B of Fats Domino's "I'm Walkin'" to the distinctive twangy pop of the Crickets' "Maybe Baby" and the polished soul of Sam Cooke's "I'll Come Running Back to You." This variety, as well as the overall excellence and enduring influence of the music, work together to make this disc an invigorating listen. Clocking in at only 32 minutes and change, a few more tracks might have been in order, but as these 14 breeze by, you'd be hard-pressed to complain.
