There will ever only be one Johnny Cash, perhaps the most singular, beloved, and iconic artist that country music ever produced, and his recorded legacy is just that, a body of work that made him a legend and an American treasure. This two-disc, 25-track set (it could easily have been compiled on one disc) collects his earliest hits recorded for Sam Phillips' Sun Records in the late '50s, including “Folsom Prison Blues” (not the live version that was a hit on Columbia Records in 1968, but every bit as good), “I Walk the Line,” “Big River,” and “Hey Porter,” among others. These are the tracks that got Cash's career rolling, and since he really never changed his approach as a singer through the years, they still hold up very, very well.
