The Beat: Go-Go's Fusion of Funk and Hip Hop looks back to the early-'80s go-go era and handpicks 19 of the era's best moments. Primarily a Washington, D.C.-based movement, go-go didn't last too long. Bringing together hip-hop and funk music and performed by live bands rather than producers and samplers, go-go no doubt had its highlights. Some of the highlights featured on his two-disc collection include Chuck Brown's "Bustin' Loose," Trouble Funk's "Pump Me Up," Kurtis Blow's "Party Time," and E.U.'s "Da' Butt." Fun music, for sure. More than anything, however, this collection serves as an excellent showcase for this mostly forgotten movement.
