This wide-ranging LP sampler launched Mutual Music's Rambler subsidiary in the early '80s, a label dedicated to reissuing previously rare Western swing recordings. Although it skips around quite a bit chronologically (and would certainly not be the first choice of completists), the performances are quite enjoyable; a special bonus is that three of the more obscure selections are from the late '40s when Western swing was considered to be somewhat passé but (as shown here) could still be quite viable. There are hot performances on this album by the Tune Wranglers, Roy Newman, the legendary Milton Brown ("Ida"), Cliff Bruner, the Prairie Ramblers, Jimmie Revard's Oklahoma Playboys, Johnny Tyler's Riders of the Rio Grande, Curly Williams' Georgia Peach Pickers, the Sunshine Boys, Jesse Ashlock and "T" Texas Tyler's Oklahoma Melody Boys.
