This album features the warm and quirky tenor of Bud Freeman showcased on two different sessions from the same month. Six titles are quartet outings with pianist Dave Bowman, bassist Al Hall and drummer George Wettling, and these are highlighted by "You Took Advantage of Me" and "Perdido." The remaining five numbers have some typically passionate playing from trumpeter Ruby Braff, along with pianist Ken Kersey, Hall and Wettling; "At Sundown" and "Exactly Like You" are the standouts. This album, which will hopefully be reissued on CD someday, is closer to mainstream than to Dixieland and is a fine example of Bud Freeman's work at the halfway point of his productive career.
