Humor, wisdom and bluegrass atmosphere combine on There's Talk About a Fence. Rick Lee's second solo album for the Waterbug label mixes banjo and electric piano on 14 folk/bluegrass songs for a result that is traditional and contemporary. Along with Lee's banjo playing, his weathered, world-weary voice adds authenticity to this collection of traditional, contemporary and original material. Some of There's Talk About a Fence's best moments include "The Come Heres and the Been Heres," about introducing modern ways to a small North Carolina town; "Lunatic Asylum," a traditional song about living in a lunatic asylum, from the perspective of a patient; and "Indian Neck," an instrumental featuring Lee's banjo skills.
