AllMusic Review by

For Talcum Soul: 26 Stonking Northern Soul Greats, compiler Dean Rudland was handed the keys to the EMI vaults and he makes the most of the opportunity, digging up lost classic after lost classic from labels like Liberty, Imperial, and United Artists. Rudland also does a good job of mixing up bigger names with lesser-knowns, balancing the likes of Little Anthony & the Imperials ("Better Use Your Head"), Garnet Mimms ("As Long as I Have You"), and the O'Jays (the magnificent "Lipstick Traces") against the relatively obscure but equally wonderful Marjorie Black ("One More Hurt"), the Casualeers ("Dance, Dance, Dance"), and Marva Josie ("Don't"). Recommended.
