AllMusic Review by

Although here renamed "Swingrass," the band on this LP is the same as the one that was called "Buellgrass" (and heard on a K2B2 LP a year earlier, ) except that Fred Tackett is added on guitar. The unusual mixture of players (bassist/leader Buell Neidlinger, Peter Ivers on harmonica, mandolinist Andy Statman, violinist Richard Greene, Tackett, Marty Krystall on reeds, and drummer Peter Erskine) performs unique renditions of three songs apiece by Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk, plus a couple of group originals. Certainly these versions of "Mainstem," "Skippy" and "Little Rootie Tootie" are different than any heard previously. A memorable set that has yet to be reissued on CD.
