AllMusic Review by

There’s an amazingly wide range of Southern rock and country on this two-disc, 40-track set, with interesting selections ranging from Merle Haggard's “Mama Tried,” Blackfoot's “Train, Train,” and Dave Dudley’s “Six Days on the Road” to George Thorogood's rock & roll ridiculous (but somehow oddly affirming) version of “Purple People Eater,” but the problem is that most of these song versions are not the original singles but are instead either live or re-recorded versions. That’s not to say it wouldn’t make an OK truck stop purchase. There’s certainly enough music here to fill a lot of driving miles, and it definitely feels like one has been tuned to a cool Southern country and rock radio station. Almost: just don’t expect the original radio versions.
