AllMusic Review by

Union Square can usually be counted on to deliver titles that use more imagination and better graphic sense than most other compilation-oriented labels. Superfly Soul does not disappoint, focusing on funky '70s soul. Plenty of the inclusions have popped up on many other sets, but several cuts will likely be new to listeners who aren't hardcore collectors. The featured tracks include Sir Joe Quarterman's "The Way They Do My Life," Bobby Womack's "Across 110th Street," Curtis Mayfield's "Freddie's Dead," Rasputin's Stash's "The Devil Made Me Do It," Ike & Tina Turner's "Cussin', Cryin' and Carryin' On," Gil Scott-Heron's "The Bottle," Betty Harris' "There's a Break in the Road," and Skull Snaps' "It's a New Day." Sample hounds in particular will have a field day with this.
