Rare Reggae from the Vaults... is yet another great compilation of Studio One recordings from the Heartbeat label. Previously released as Studio One Showcase, Volume 2, the compilation contains enjoyable, early rocksteady tunes, including rare sides by artists ranging among the Martinis, a group that recorded only four songs then disappeared; Peter Broggs, who cut only one tune for Studio One, but more for RAS Records; and the prolific Gaylads who recorded 86 songs for Studio One alone. Also here, available for the first time on CD, are the Silvertones' "Take a Little Love" and Winston Francis' "Going to Zion." Be aware that the versions heard here are the original two-track recordings overdubbed and remixed with the instrumental reprises that were added (to lengthen the song) ten years after their original releases, many featuring Studio One band drummer Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace.
