A superb album of mellow, smoky jazz instrumentals performed by flügelhorn/cornetist Mike Metheny together with keyboardist Brad Hatfield, who comes equipped with an arsenal of equipment that provides the music with a highly textured background. Drummer Todd Strait also provides support on four cuts. The collection has a gorgeous tone to it, and while the odd familiar synth sound crops up here and there, there is a much more organic feeling to the record than might be expected. Metheny (older brother of guitarist Pat Metheny) turns in spirited performances, which helps in turn to instill strongly positive feelings in the listener. The excellent recording quality is also a plus.
