AllMusic Review by

This two-fer CD combines the James Gang's 1972 albums Straight Shooter and Passin' Thru. Originally these LP's were released separately on MCA and had been out of print until being reissued in 2005 on Beat Goes On. Neither album can be recommended to anyone but the most ardent fan, as both sessions pale in comparison to the Joe Walsh years. The most interesting track is "Madness," which finds the band sounding very much like vintage Grand Funk Railroad. Unfortunately, the abysmal "Hairy Hypochondriac," is a definite low point in the James Gang's history.
