AllMusic Review by

The music on this enjoyable LP, twelve numbers taken from a radio transcription session by Chick Webb's Orchestra, was also originally available along with five additional tunes from other dates on a Jazz Archives Lp. Obviously the latter is a better buy but this better distributed album might be easier to find. Featuring Bobby Stark on trumpet (Taft Jordan was absent for the date), trombonist Sandy Williams, Teddy McRae on tenor and (on three numbers) the vocals of Ella Fitzgerald, this album gives one a good all-round sampling of the 1936 Chick Webb big band. Highlights include "Big John Special," "Don't Be That Way," "King Porter Stomp" and "Stompin' At The Savoy."
