Doylestown, Pennsylvania's Burning Sky record label, having previously released tributes to Jellyfish, Posies, Roxy Music, and Squeeze, outdoes itself. 1978-1980's Toy Love is a taller, more valuable order: the quintet are New Zealand's seminal legends, but few Americans know who they are. The few who do followed the subsequent solo career of frontman Chris Knox, whose debilitating June 11, 2009 stroke left him unable to speak and begat the Stroke: Songs for Chris Knox tribute. Like that, some of Stitched Up!!'s proceeds will alleviate Knox's rehab bill. And despite the usual nondescript no-names (save for Kiwis Proud Scum, Hamish Kilgour of the Clean, and Mutton Birds' Don McGlashan fantastically collaborating with Straitjacket Fits' Shayne Carter and Sean Donnelly), the plucky assemblage translate the unpredictable spark that was Toy Love's (and its predecessor, the Enemy's) new wave/punk genius for the 2010s, instead of Xeroxing.
