While Daigrepont is aware of other sounds like rock and country, he integrates their edge and sensibility into his work without losing or deserting the basic Cajun mode. The 10 tunes on this release are predominantly driving, uptempo pieces with his frenetic accordion and infectious vocals setting the pace, backed by a sharp band that includes tremendous fiddler Waylon Thibodeaux. Daigrepont makes no lyrical concessions, but the color and flair of his singing should overcome any hesitancy non-French speakers might have about the material. It's certainly up-to-date, but also thoroughly steeped in the old ethic.
