On another installment of his solo avant-garde blues musings, Loren Mazzacane Connors proves again consistent in what has been an incredible evolution in his deeply personal music. There are few comparisons to the solo electric guitar world he inhabits -- and no shortage of recordings available on numerous independent labels. His music has been coined blues, folk, improvisation, and space rock, yet neither tag has appropriately housed him. St Vincent's Newsboy Home is a recording in his signature light touch and vague phrasing, minimal blues patterns and a reverberating sustain are where his music starts -- yet it ends often in disorientating meditations, abstract flights into magnificent studies of tone. On this album his music is incredibly lyrical, late-night meditations on the bare traces of melody and stormy eruptions of organic feedback. Loren Mazzacane-Connors is one of the few artists whose albums seem intent to push blues into the future, and St Vincent's Newsboy Home is further testament to this maverick spirit.
