Trumpeter Michael Mossman (who also plays some effective trombone) is featured in a sextet with tenor saxophonist David Sanchez, pianist Kenny Drew, Jr., bassist James Genus, drummer Marvin "Smitty" Smith, and percussionist Bobby Sanabria. Other than a medley of Bill Evans' "Peace Piece" and Horace Silver's "Peace," this CD is comprised of Mossman's originals. Some of the numbers are Latin pieces (most notably "Chachanita" and "Mambo a la Jo"), while a few others are in the hard bop vein of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and Horace Silver. Recommended to both hard bop and Afro-Cuban jazz collectors.
